The A647 Stanningley Road bus infrastructure improvements to ease congestion in peak times along the Leeds to Bradford route is complete We'd like to thank you for your patience whilst we have been doing the improvements. Measures we've done include new peak time bus/cycle/taxi lanes along Bradford Road, the conversion of the previous high occupancy vehicle lane (2+) to a bus/cycle/taxi lane on Stanningley Road and a new outbound bus/cycle/taxi lane within a widened carriageway on the approach to the Ledgard way junction. If you'd like to read more about it you can view the press release here: https://news.leeds.gov.uk/news/leeds-to-bradford-transport-improvements-complete Going forward there are more transport improvements going on in the city. As part of the Connecting Leeds project, Leeds City Council are transforming travel by making a range of transport improvements in key locations across the city. Improving our bus network and developing park and ride sites, is an important part of our plans. Giving buses priority along key routes will make journeys quicker, easier and more appealing, helping to tackle congestion, air quality and health issues.
After consulting on travel improvement plans along this route in 2018, Leeds City Council appointed BAM Nuttall to undertake construction, along the A647 between Bradford and Leeds, via Stanningley, Bramley and Armley.
Following feedback the initial start date was postponed to allow several design changes to be considered. We can confirm that the first works started w/c 9th November. This work is to remove the central islands on Armley Road. Work will also start on the proposed bus lane (on Armley Road).
The key benefits of the scheme include:
The key works along the corridor, both east and westbound include:

Thank you for taking part in the first phase of consultation on the Connecting Leeds plans to transform our bus network. We have modified our plans following the initial public consultation to enhance bus service reliability for this route.
Earlier this year, you may have signed up to receive updates on the proposals on the Bradford to Leeds route.
You can now see again these detailed plans to benefit all traffic, which include; new bus lanes and cycle lanes; improved footways, better pedestrian crossings and upgrades to junctions.
Together our proposals are capable of reducing bus journey times at peak times by up to 15 minutes. This will make bus journeys more reliable and attractive for the 12,000 people who already use the bus on this route each day.
Please take a few minutes to read these updated proposals. They show the latest improvements along this route, how these have changed in response to your feedback or particular concerns you may have raised.
Your feedback is needed please by the deadline of 14 December 2018 .
If you have any questions regard Connecting Leeds, please contact the team directly via email at connectingleeds@leeds.gov.uk .
